General Zakah
Cash, savings, gold, silver, receivables, and other personal zakatable assets.
Scholarly note: the nisab may be calculated by reference to gold or silver. In earlier periods, the two measures were much closer in value; today, silver usually produces the lower threshold. This calculator therefore defaults to the silver nisab, following the view of scholars who regard the lower threshold as more cautious for the payer and more beneficial for the poor and other eligible recipients.
Business Zakah
Trade goods, inventory, business cash, receivables, investments, and immediate business liabilities.
Livestock Zakah
Qualifying grazing livestock is calculated by animal type and count, not by the standard 2.5% wealth rate.
Agricultural Zakah
Crops and harvests are calculated using harvest value and irrigation method.
Zakah Guidance
Short explanations for the assumptions most people ask about while completing the calculator.
The minimum amount of zakatable wealth a person must own before zakah becomes due.
Silver is lower today, so it is selected as the more cautious threshold and more beneficial to eligible recipients.
One complete lunar year from the time zakatable wealth first reached the nisab threshold.
Immediate liabilities due within the zakah period may be deducted from zakatable assets.
Gold is valued by weight and karat purity using the current market value of pure gold.
Agricultural zakah uses harvest rules and irrigation rates rather than the standard 2.5% wealth rate.
