Comprehensive Duas from the Quran

All praise is due to Allah, Lord of the worlds, and may peace and blessings be upon our Prophet Muhammad, and upon his family and companions.

The duas of the Quran are among the greatest and most comprehensive supplications, because they are the words of Allah. They include the good of this world and the Hereafter: guidance, forgiveness, mercy, firmness, rectification of the heart and deeds, and salvation from the Fire.

Why Should We Make Dua with Quranic Supplications?

Because they are comprehensive and blessed supplications chosen by Allah in His Book. The prophets and the righteous called upon Allah with them, and they contain perfect etiquette with Allah and beautiful ways of asking Him.

{وَقَالَ رَبُّكُمُ ادْعُونِي أَسْتَجِبْ لَكُمْ، إِنَّ الَّذِينَ يَسْتَكْبِرُونَ عَنْ عِبَادَتِي سَيَدْخُلُونَ جَهَنَّمَ دَاخِرِينَ}“Your Lord said: Call upon Me; I will respond to you. Indeed, those who are too arrogant to worship Me will enter Hell humiliated.” [Ghafir 40:60]

Comprehensive Duas from the Quran

1The Good of This World and the Hereafter

{رَبَّنَا آتِنَا فِي الدُّنْيَا حَسَنَةً، وَفِي الآخِرَةِ حَسَنَةً، وَقِنَا عَذَابَ النَّارِ}Our Lord, give us good in this world and good in the Hereafter, and protect us from the punishment of the Fire. [Al-Baqarah 2:201]

This is one of the most comprehensive duas, gathering the good of this life, the Hereafter, and protection from the Fire.

2Firmness and Guidance

{رَبَّنَا لَا تُزِغْ قُلُوبَنَا بَعْدَ إِذْ هَدَيْتَنَا، وَهَبْ لَنَا مِنْ لَدُنْكَ رَحْمَةً، إِنَّكَ أَنْتَ الوَهَّابُ}Our Lord, do not let our hearts deviate after You have guided us, and grant us mercy from Yourself. Indeed, You are the Bestower. [Ali Imran 3:8]

It asks Allah for firmness after guidance, one of the greatest needs of every Muslim.

3Forgiveness After Faith

{رَبَّنَا إِنَّنَا آمَنَّا، فَاغْفِرْ لَنَا ذُنُوبَنَا، وَقِنَا عَذَابَ النَّارِ}Our Lord, indeed we have believed, so forgive us our sins and protect us from the punishment of the Fire. [Ali Imran 3:16]

4Patience, Firmness, and Victory

{رَبَّنَا أَفْرِغْ عَلَيْنَا صَبْرًا، وَثَبِّتْ أَقْدَامَنَا، وَانْصُرْنَا عَلَى القَوْمِ الكَافِرِينَ}Our Lord, pour upon us patience, make our feet firm, and grant us victory over the disbelieving people. [Al-Baqarah 2:250]

5Acceptance of Deeds

{رَبَّنَا تَقَبَّلْ مِنَّا، إِنَّكَ أَنْتَ السَّمِيعُ العَلِيمُ}Our Lord, accept from us. Indeed, You are the All-Hearing, the All-Knowing. [Al-Baqarah 2:127]

6Repentance

{رَبَّنَا وَتُبْ عَلَيْنَا، إِنَّكَ أَنْتَ التَّوَّابُ الرَّحِيمُ}Our Lord, accept our repentance. Indeed, You are the Accepter of repentance, the Most Merciful. [Al-Baqarah 2:128]

7Not Being Taken to Account for Forgetfulness and Mistakes

{رَبَّنَا لَا تُؤَاخِذْنَا إِنْ نَسِينَا أَوْ أَخْطَأْنَا، رَبَّنَا وَلَا تَحْمِلْ عَلَيْنَا إِصْرًا كَمَا حَمَلْتَهُ عَلَى الَّذِينَ مِنْ قَبْلِنَا، رَبَّنَا وَلَا تُحَمِّلْنَا مَا لَا طَاقَةَ لَنَا بِهِ، وَاعْفُ عَنَّا، وَاغْفِرْ لَنَا، وَارْحَمْنَا، أَنْتَ مَوْلَانَا، فَانْصُرْنَا عَلَى القَوْمِ الكَافِرِينَ}Our Lord, do not take us to account if we forget or make a mistake. Our Lord, do not place upon us a burden like that which You placed upon those before us. Our Lord, do not burden us with what we cannot bear. Pardon us, forgive us, and have mercy on us. You are our Protector, so grant us victory over the disbelieving people. [Al-Baqarah 2:286]

8Salvation After Wronging Oneself

{رَبَّنَا ظَلَمْنَا أَنْفُسَنَا، وَإِنْ لَمْ تَغْفِرْ لَنَا وَتَرْحَمْنَا، لَنَكُونَنَّ مِنَ الخَاسِرِينَ}Our Lord, we have wronged ourselves, and if You do not forgive us and have mercy on us, we will surely be among the losers. [Al-A‘raf 7:23]

9Mercy and Forgiveness

{رَبَّنَا اغْفِرْ لَنَا، وَارْحَمْنَا، وَأَنْتَ خَيْرُ الرَّاحِمِينَ}Our Lord, forgive us and have mercy on us, and You are the best of those who show mercy. [Al-Mu’minun 23:109]

10Righteous Spouses and Offspring

{رَبَّنَا هَبْ لَنَا مِنْ أَزْوَاجِنَا وَذُرِّيَّاتِنَا قُرَّةَ أَعْيُنٍ، وَاجْعَلْنَا لِلْمُتَّقِينَ إِمَامًا}Our Lord, grant us from our spouses and offspring comfort to our eyes, and make us leaders for the righteous. [Al-Furqan 25:74]

11Paradise and Safety from Disgrace

{رَبَّنَا وَآتِنَا مَا وَعَدْتَنَا عَلَى رُسُلِكَ، وَلَا تُخْزِنَا يَوْمَ القِيَامَةِ، إِنَّكَ لَا تُخْلِفُ المِيعَادَ}Our Lord, grant us what You promised us through Your messengers, and do not disgrace us on the Day of Resurrection. Indeed, You do not fail in Your promise. [Ali Imran 3:194]

12The Dua of Nuh عليه السلام

{رَبِّ اغْفِرْ لِي وَلِوَالِدَيَّ وَلِمَنْ دَخَلَ بَيْتِيَ مُؤْمِنًا وَلِلْمُؤْمِنِينَ وَالمُؤْمِنَاتِ، وَلَا تَزِدِ الظَّالِمِينَ إِلَّا تَبَارًا}My Lord, forgive me, my parents, whoever enters my house as a believer, and the believing men and believing women. And do not increase the wrongdoers except in destruction. [Nuh 71:28]

13The Dua of Musa عليه السلام

{رَبِّ اشْرَحْ لِي صَدْرِي . وَيَسِّرْ لِي أَمْرِي . وَاحْلُلْ عُقْدَةً مِنْ لِسَانِي . يَفْقَهُوا قَوْلِي}My Lord, expand my chest for me, make my task easy for me, and untie the knot from my tongue so they may understand my speech. [Taha 20:25-28]

14Seeking Knowledge

{رَبِّ زِدْنِي عِلْمًا}My Lord, increase me in knowledge. [Taha 20:114]

15Gratitude and Righteous Deeds

{رَبِّ أَوْزِعْنِي أَنْ أَشْكُرَ نِعْمَتَكَ الَّتِي أَنْعَمْتَ عَلَيَّ وَعَلَى وَالِدَيَّ، وَأَنْ أَعْمَلَ صَالِحًا تَرْضَاهُ، وَأَدْخِلْنِي بِرَحْمَتِكَ فِي عِبَادِكَ الصَّالِحِينَ}My Lord, enable me to be grateful for Your favor which You have bestowed upon me and upon my parents, and to do righteous deeds that please You, and admit me by Your mercy among Your righteous servants. [An-Naml 27:19]

16Righteous Offspring and Repentance

{رَبِّ أَوْزِعْنِي أَنْ أَشْكُرَ نِعْمَتَكَ الَّتِي أَنْعَمْتَ عَلَيَّ وَعَلَى وَالِدَيَّ، وَأَنْ أَعْمَلَ صَالِحًا تَرْضَاهُ، وَأَصْلِحْ لِي فِي ذُرِّيَّتِي، إِنِّي تُبْتُ إِلَيْكَ، وَإِنِّي مِنَ المُسْلِمِينَ}My Lord, enable me to be grateful for Your favor which You have bestowed upon me and upon my parents, to do righteous deeds that please You, and make my offspring righteous for me. Indeed, I have repented to You, and indeed I am of the Muslims. [Al-Ahqaf 46:15]

17Protection from the Fire

{رَبَّنَا اصْرِفْ عَنَّا عَذَابَ جَهَنَّمَ، إِنَّ عَذَابَهَا كَانَ غَرَامًا . إِنَّهَا سَاءَتْ مُسْتَقَرًّا وَمُقَامًا}Our Lord, turn away from us the punishment of Hell. Indeed, its punishment is ever adhering. Indeed, it is evil as a settlement and residence. [Al-Furqan 25:65-66]

18Forgiveness for Fellow Believers

{رَبَّنَا اغْفِرْ لَنَا وَلِإِخْوَانِنَا الَّذِينَ سَبَقُونَا بِالإِيمَانِ، وَلَا تَجْعَلْ فِي قُلُوبِنَا غِلًّا لِلَّذِينَ آمَنُوا، رَبَّنَا إِنَّكَ رَءُوفٌ رَحِيمٌ}Our Lord, forgive us and our brothers who preceded us in faith, and do not place in our hearts any resentment toward those who believe. Our Lord, indeed You are Kind and Merciful. [Al-Hashr 59:10]

19Establishing Prayer and Forgiveness

{رَبِّ اجْعَلْنِي مُقِيمَ الصَّلَاةِ وَمِنْ ذُرِّيَّتِي، رَبَّنَا وَتَقَبَّلْ دُعَاءِ . رَبَّنَا اغْفِرْ لِي وَلِوَالِدَيَّ وَلِلْمُؤْمِنِينَ يَوْمَ يَقُومُ الحِسَابُ}My Lord, make me one who establishes prayer, and also from my offspring. Our Lord, accept my supplication. Our Lord, forgive me, my parents, and the believers on the Day the reckoning is established. [Ibrahim 14:40-41]

20Neediness Before Allah

{رَبِّ إِنِّي لِمَا أَنْزَلْتَ إِلَيَّ مِنْ خَيْرٍ فَقِيرٌ}My Lord, indeed I am in need of whatever good You send down to me. [Al-Qasas 28:24]

21The Dua of Yunus عليه السلام

{لَا إِلَهَ إِلَّا أَنْتَ سُبْحَانَكَ، إِنِّي كُنْتُ مِنَ الظَّالِمِينَ}There is no deity except You. Glory be to You. Indeed, I was among the wrongdoers. [Al-Anbiya 21:87]

22The Dua of the People of the Cave

{رَبَّنَا آتِنَا مِنْ لَدُنْكَ رَحْمَةً، وَهَيِّئْ لَنَا مِنْ أَمْرِنَا رَشَدًا}Our Lord, grant us mercy from Yourself and prepare for us right guidance in our affair. [Al-Kahf 18:10]

23Seeking Refuge from the Devils

{رَبِّ أَعُوذُ بِكَ مِنْ هَمَزَاتِ الشَّيَاطِينِ . وَأَعُوذُ بِكَ رَبِّ أَنْ يَحْضُرُونِ}My Lord, I seek refuge in You from the incitements of the devils, and I seek refuge in You, my Lord, lest they be present with me. [Al-Mu’minun 23:97-98]

24Patience and Dying as Muslims

{رَبَّنَا أَفْرِغْ عَلَيْنَا صَبْرًا، وَتَوَفَّنَا مُسْلِمِينَ}Our Lord, pour upon us patience and cause us to die as Muslims. [Al-A‘raf 7:126]

25Salvation from Wrongdoing People

{رَبَّنَا لَا تَجْعَلْنَا فِتْنَةً لِلْقَوْمِ الظَّالِمِينَ . وَنَجِّنَا بِرَحْمَتِكَ مِنَ القَوْمِ الكَافِرِينَ}Our Lord, do not make us a trial for the wrongdoing people, and save us by Your mercy from the disbelieving people. [Yunus 10:85-86]

26Not Being a Trial and Seeking Forgiveness

{رَبَّنَا لَا تَجْعَلْنَا فِتْنَةً لِلَّذِينَ كَفَرُوا، وَاغْفِرْ لَنَا رَبَّنَا، إِنَّكَ أَنْتَ العَزِيزُ الحَكِيمُ}Our Lord, do not make us a trial for those who disbelieve, and forgive us, our Lord. Indeed, You are the Almighty, the Wise. [Al-Mumtahanah 60:5]

27Completion of Light and Forgiveness

{رَبَّنَا أَتْمِمْ لَنَا نُورَنَا، وَاغْفِرْ لَنَا، إِنَّكَ عَلَى كُلِّ شَيْءٍ قَدِيرٌ}Our Lord, complete for us our light and forgive us. Indeed, You are over all things capable. [At-Tahrim 66:8]

{رَبِّ ابْنِ لِي عِنْدَكَ بَيْتًا فِي الجَنَّةِ، وَنَجِّنِي مِنْ فِرْعَوْنَ وَعَمَلِهِ، وَنَجِّنِي مِنَ القَوْمِ الظَّالِمِينَ}My Lord, build for me near You a house in Paradise, save me from Pharaoh and his deeds, and save me from the wrongdoing people. [At-Tahrim 66:11]

30Zakariya عليه السلام Asking Not to Be Left Alone

{رَبِّ لَا تَذَرْنِي فَرْدًا، وَأَنْتَ خَيْرُ الوَارِثِينَ}My Lord, do not leave me alone, while You are the best of inheritors. [Al-Anbiya 21:89]

31Yusuf عليه السلام Asking for a Good Ending

{رَبِّ قَدْ آتَيْتَنِي مِنَ المُلْكِ، وَعَلَّمْتَنِي مِنْ تَأْوِيلِ الأَحَادِيثِ، فَاطِرَ السَّمَاوَاتِ وَالأَرْضِ، أَنْتَ وَلِيِّي فِي الدُّنْيَا وَالآخِرَةِ، تَوَفَّنِي مُسْلِمًا، وَأَلْحِقْنِي بِالصَّالِحِينَ}My Lord, You have given me authority and taught me the interpretation of events. Creator of the heavens and the earth, You are my Protector in this world and the Hereafter. Cause me to die as a Muslim and join me with the righteous. [Yusuf 12:101]

32Ibrahim عليه السلام Asking for Safety and Protection from Shirk

{رَبِّ اجْعَلْ هَذَا البَلَدَ آمِنًا، وَاجْنُبْنِي وَبَنِيَّ أَنْ نَعْبُدَ الأَصْنَامَ}My Lord, make this city secure, and keep me and my children away from worshiping idols. [Ibrahim 14:35]

33Ibrahim عليه السلام Asking for Love of the Sacred House and Provision

{رَبَّنَا إِنِّي أَسْكَنْتُ مِنْ ذُرِّيَّتِي بِوَادٍ غَيْرِ ذِي زَرْعٍ عِنْدَ بَيْتِكَ المُحَرَّمِ، رَبَّنَا لِيُقِيمُوا الصَّلَاةَ، فَاجْعَلْ أَفْئِدَةً مِنَ النَّاسِ تَهْوِي إِلَيْهِمْ، وَارْزُقْهُمْ مِنَ الثَّمَرَاتِ لَعَلَّهُمْ يَشْكُرُونَ}Our Lord, I have settled some of my descendants in an uncultivated valley near Your Sacred House, our Lord, so that they may establish prayer. So make hearts among the people incline toward them, and provide for them from the fruits so they may be grateful. [Ibrahim 14:37]

34Nuh عليه السلام Asking for Victory

{رَبِّ انْصُرْنِي بِمَا كَذَّبُونِ}My Lord, support me because they have denied me. [Al-Mu’minun 23:26]

35Nuh عليه السلام Asking for a Blessed Landing

{رَبِّ أَنْزِلْنِي مُنْزَلًا مُبَارَكًا، وَأَنْتَ خَيْرُ المُنْزِلِينَ}My Lord, let me land at a blessed landing place, and You are the best of those who bring to land. [Al-Mu’minun 23:29]

36Lut عليه السلام Asking for Safety from Corruption

{رَبِّ نَجِّنِي وَأَهْلِي مِمَّا يَعْمَلُونَ}My Lord, save me and my family from what they do. [Ash-Shu‘ara 26:169]

37The Dua of Believers for Trust and Returning to Allah

{رَبَّنَا عَلَيْكَ تَوَكَّلْنَا، وَإِلَيْكَ أَنَبْنَا، وَإِلَيْكَ المَصِيرُ}Our Lord, upon You we have relied, to You we have returned, and to You is the destination. [Al-Mumtahanah 60:4]

How Should a Muslim Use the Duas of the Quran?

A Muslim should make these duas with reflection and presence of heart. It is permissible to repeat them, choose from them what fits one’s situation, and use them inside and outside the prayer.

Can Quranic Duas Be Made in Sujood?

Yes. It is permissible to make Quranic duas in sujood if the intention is supplication, not Quran recitation, because sujood is a place of dua.

“The closest a servant is to his Lord is while he is prostrating, so increase in supplication.” Narrated by Muslim.

As for reciting Quran in ruku‘ or sujood as recitation, that is not prescribed, because the Prophet صلى الله عليه وسلم said:

“Indeed, I have been forbidden from reciting the Quran while bowing or prostrating.” Narrated by Muslim.

So if a Muslim says in sujood, “Our Lord, give us good in this world and good in the Hereafter...” or “My Lord, forgive me and my parents...” intending dua, then there is no problem, in sha Allah.

The duas of the Quran are comprehensive and blessed. They gather for the servant the good of this world and the Hereafter. A Muslim should memorize what is easy from them and call upon Allah with them in prayer, in private moments, and at times when dua is answered, with presence of heart and good expectations of Allah.
